they would not do as ordered.
They would notify headquarters, mutiny, relieve the commanding officer/ NCO (whatever the rank) from duty as they are clearly unfit, and take the commander prisoner and return to post, if possible, to have a new officer/NCO put in command.

The answer would by most standards be no, 95% would balk at the very thought (but that other 5 %....) but if a person ever received that order (which is illegal to issue and against Human Rights Standards of the UN and US) they would need to be able to live with their decision, its a medical fact very few people can commit atrocities of this caliber and eventually have a breakdown of sorts as a result. Need proof go look at the vets of Nam and Korea for every 1 who can there is 1000 who cant.
There are codes of conduct with in US policies and UN to prevent an order like that but if a soldier gets one he can defy a direct order on the spot and can go to wherever he needs to (not media) with in military to report it.
As a person who's been around military and Vietnam vets I know those very orders have been issued and executed by all sides. Generally a normal person can not handle the long term effect normally resulting in suicide, insanity, or heavily reliance on chemicals. Some vets buried it and forget about what happened like it was never real, their minds cant handle the fact that it was its another form of repression and mental breakdown.
For every one person who could handle it 1000 more can not live with the atrocities committed even if they tell themselves it was war and they were ordered.

No, service men and women only have to follow lawful orders. An order like that will not be given, as it is not lawful.
Look up the My Lai Massacre to learn a little history on this.

The military is subject to lawful orders dictated by the UCMJ and the G-convention.
No commander in their right mind would ever give an order like that and risk a special court martial.
only an idiot by the name of Hitler would do anything that sick.
sounds like you need to get a life also.

Should they?? No. Soldiers are obligated not to follow illegal and immoral orders and will be held accountable if they do (Geneva Convention)
Would they?? most probably (hopefully) wouldn't. However, I'm sure there are some that would.

yes...if ordered to do so...the lives aren't on the soldiers hands but the leaders who ordered it...i think we care too much for innocent lives in a time of war which makes it harder for us to win wars...if people are truly concerned about innocent lives why don't they cry out against abortion...why don't they cry out against the drug dealers who kill innocent people...why don't they cry out against the family who abandoned a member of their family and is now homeless...people die in wars...innocent and guilty...you can't kill one without the other...war isn't accurate nor is it perfect...to expect it is blind stupidity...but as you said "what if" so...i guess the answer given is irrelative...during WW2 cities were flattened with bombs...civilians were killed as well as soldiers...important infrastructures and facilities were taken out at the cost of innocent lives...but the war was won...how many wars have been successful with the US since then and now that the US doesn't take the same actions is war...just something to think about...

I heard that during Viet-Nam little kids used to come up to soldiers and them if they wanted their shoes/boots shined. They had a box where the soldier would put his foot then the kid would run and the 'box/bomb' would go off.
You make you own descision.
