You could potentially rupture the bladder (which was what killed Tycho Brahe) or the muscles may decide on their own to release the content, over your objections.

Some guys practice interrupting the flow while they urinate so that they can keep from ejaculating when they have an orgasm during intercourse. I don't know how reliable it is for birth control but I have to think it's uncomfortable!
Just not urinating for a long time has the results the others have described. I don't think your bladder would burst, though, I think the pressure would open the sphincter muscle that you flex to hold the urine back before that could happen. Infection is the more likely consequence.

It's unhealthy. Depending on how long and how often you hold it, you can get a UTI (urinary tract infection).. and that isn't fun - it can be damaging to your kidneys. If you have a choice, do not hold it. Since you're a man you can go just about anywhere, so be happy about that. The UTI is more common in women then men but it can happen to you, especially if you are holding it when you gotta go. "Gotta go gotta go gotta go right now.." So definintley whip it out and go! Write your name too if you like. :) Just relieve yourself. (I'm assuming in men if done enough it can eventually lead to complications with your prostate..)

Your bladder will distend, and possibly rupture if it distends to far, which could result in death. Just go to the bathroom.
