Ok! So I HAD a friend that said something very stupid and disturbing to me. Stupid because my experience in this arena says NO. Disturbing, because I cant believe someone with a college education can be so "lacking".
Anyway this is the story: A previous friend of mine, she wanted to take an AIDS test because she did not receive one in a while. So she tells me she's scared to take it because potential employer's often check into people's medical history and find FREQUENT TESTING, a liability (she meant they wont hire you if the company, while screening you, notices frequent blood work, etc). She even provided a source (a guy friend she had told HER that he didnt get hired because he had frequent testing)
I only worked in HR for 2 years, but within that time, I have never heard of anything more ludacrous than this. I explained to her if that was the case (with her friend) that he could have sued the company for some kind of discrimination.
What do you think of this?

Ever hear of the HIPAA Law??? Medical records are protected under Federal Law and employers cannot obtain this information! I work in Health Care and I know the scoop on this. If your friend wants an HIV test, go to a county health department and they give anonymous testing for HIV. On the other side of this, it is none of your business and why in the world should you be upset if it does not have anything to do with you???? Mind your own business!

I don't think your friend's statement is stupid. Nothing surprises me anymore.
