trucks burn mileage faster than cars

Trucks are heavier than cars, and usually less aerodynamic. Since it takes a given amount of fuel to accelerate a given mass at a given rate, then increasing any of these variables will increase the amount of fuel needed. Poor aerodynamics means that the engine has to continually supply power just to maintain a given speed (a car may only need 15 hp to maintain speed on a flat road, but a truck may need 25 hp or more, and even more to actually accelerate the vehicle.)
