I personally think its ridiculous but I am interested in peoples rationale behind it.

It's not cool, it's foolish. People who say they hate the Yankees in reality are just plain jealous of the Yankees. These are the same people who root for teams that wish they had the same success as the Yankees. What they really hate is the fact that their own teams don't make the same commitment to winning and therefore fall short each year.
This payroll BS is just that. Every team is spending millions on players, not just the Yankees. Maybe they are all finally understanding what the Yankees have known for some time. It's not enough just to spend money. You have to believe that every time you step on the field you will win. Most other teams don't have that mindset.
Jealously, not hatred is the key word here.

Why do people think it's cool to like the Yankees? I can find Yankee fans ANYWHERE in the world. Also, they all but have a monopoly on baseball, if they want something/someone, they buy it.
Also, I'm a RedSox fan. So, it's pretty much a given. And it feels so good to be a part of the end of an 86yr curse and the biggest choke ever by another team ('04 ALCS).
A Yankee fan is a dime a dozen.

Great question. A lot of people don't have the slightest clue as to why they hate the Yankees. Most of them are brain washed by the media raging on their payroll.
If they were to hate something it would be the Boss's philosophy of putting the best team on the field that he possibly can. Which corret me if I'm wrong, his job!
I've always wondered if George was the owner of another team and ran it the same way as he runs the Yankees would people hate that team too for no reason at all?

I do not hate the Yankees, in fact I adore the Yankees, but I can empathize with others feelings about them. They are a rich team, with very deep pockets and lots of championships. They have some of the most noted players in the history of baseball and presently have a team full of superstars and the mega rich. To hate them is "As American as Cheating on your Income Taxes" a noted writer once said.

Its tradition.
Your suppose to hate the Yankees if your not a fan of them.
Im a Tiger fan, and I hate the Yankees. Everybody who is not a fan of the team, will say the team they hate the most is the Yankees.
Its not that we hate them, its just they are always the best, and want to beat them. Tiger games get crazy when the Yankees come to town and the Tigers have the lead...
Its like that all over.
But as a little boy, who didnt dream of playing center field for the yanks...
they are baseballs most reconized team, everyone dislikes them, but would play for them in a heart beat if givin the chance

people dont hate the yankees because it is cool. they hate the yankees because the yankees spend the most money on players and have the best team in their division. people also hate the yankees because they always go to the playoffs and dont allow other teams to make it. i hate the yankees, and i always will. i am a dodgers fan. and i think that it is unfair to have a team that goes to the playoffs/world series every year because they get the best players. i wish that the royals or pirates could get in again, but its too hard for them to make it while teams like the yankees take all the best players and make it hard for these teams to win, who could use the players and money that these players bring.

Because they have the highest payroll, and simply buy the best players with rediculous contracts. As opposed to other teams who have limited money and therefore cannot sign the best players. The other teams have to actually scout out gems ans put forth effort, where the yankees just give the best players a ton of money to play for them.

Because they are jealous. The Yankees are only doing their jobs if they put the best team on the field. People hate them for doing their job which doesn't make sense. The job of the owner is to get the best players they can to win championships. It is also weird to me that while there are people who hate the Yankees, there are people who don't hate the Boston Celtics of the NBA or the Montreal Canadiens of the NHL. That to me is hypocritical. The Celtics have dominated the NBA many years ago. The Montreal Canadiens have won 23 Stanley Cups. If you hate the Yankees and not the Celtics or Canadiens then you are a hypocrite.

People think that its cool to hate the yankees becasue they are the most stories franchise in all of sports history. People love to have the underdog win, so they hate on the team most likely to win, The Yankees.

I think most people hate Steinbrenner (I sure do) and then transfer that hate onto his team (I'm a Met fan, but don't violently hate the Yankees as many people do).
