Wash everything in cold water!

Some suggest separating clothes, and what not. Actually, I've never done this. I always wash all clothes together on cold. It's easier and I've never had any whites turn colors. They always come out clean!

One thing I can say is buy a more expensive laundry detergent. If you use the off-brands, your clothes will definitely fade in no time. I prefer Gain and All concentrated.

Ok..laundry must be separated..don't throw everything in together or you will end up with pink underwear! Colors separate from white things..towels by themselves (the will leave lint on everything!) Generally. whites take Hot water and fabric safe bleach. Colors take warm water and cool rinse same for jeans(unless they get too tight from the dryer, in that case hang dry).
Towels warm or hot. I use hot to eliminate all germs.

read the boxes and bottles of detergent. They have made it stupid proof. They tell you exactly what to do. Also your washing machine probably has directions on it, maybe under the lid.
Never uses HOT water.
Use very warm water for towels
Warm for all nondelicate clothes
Cold for delicates

Read the labels of all your clothes they tell you what to do. If it says DRY CLEAN only then it means do not wash, bring to a dry cleaner.
I suggest using ALL detergent, Clorox bleach for COLORS, and regular bleach for white clothes.

I separate my wash, All whites I do with Bleach and Hot water, Sometimes when I only have a small amount of whites, I will add pastel colors, and wash them in Tide with bleach alternative, it has a white cap on it. Add NO BLEACH to that wash.
Then I take the colored wash and do that in cold or warm water and you can use the same tide in that to keep your colored wash bright. doing wash 45 years for a family of 5
