A standard lamp bulb won't work, but you can get special bulbs to go in a standard light socket, or even special lamps entirely that emit the proper spectrum to give your plants what they need. Nothing is better than real sunlight, but they work well when you can't get your plants in the light enough. Go to a plant nursery or Home Depot type store and they will either have them in stock or can point you in the right direction.

Someone once told me that plants can thrive under fluorescent lights.. ..... like in an office. I just do my best to move my indoor plants into the light until spring when I can put them back outside.

Use a lamp, but during the natural light only. Not in the night. Flowers sleep like people.

fluorescent lights are a good way to go. My friend is grow her plants in the house using them and then she will transfer them to the garden in the spring. They seem to love that kind of light

Fluorescent bulbs are OK, but you can buy a special bulb for a fluorescent fixture that would be better for your plants. Look at a garden center or Wal Mart for the new bulb.
