I'm looking at the online Burpee catalog and it says "Shallot - 1 Pkg. (10 sets)". What does it mean by "sets"? I'm thinking of ordering some to grow in my garden in the spring.

A set is a small bulb, grown from seed or taken from scarf.

A set will give a greater advantage on growth during the season.
But has a draw back, the original set will leave a dark spot in the center.

Now your asking yourself what's scarf?, garlic is asexual it grows a set at the top of it's stem, your growing shallots but they are all in the same family

I means that the package contains 10 shallot bulbs. The same goes for an 'onion set'. It means 1 bulb.
