there are two rooms we want to heat with an arch way between the two the sizes of the rooms are 12' by 16 and 12' by 14'. and there is only one window in each room and one door in the one room

you have less than 400 sqft 10,000 btu is plenty for this

you should be ok. i have a 18,000 btu wall mounted fireplace and it heats 600 square ft. easily, your 10k btu should be rated for between 300 and 400 square ft.and you fall right in the middle of that bracket.

It might be O.K. have you tried it? remember, a lot goes up the chimney. An average 900 to 1200 square foot home has an 85000 BTU furnace.
