Spider mites love them. Do your experiment to study which kind they love better. Grow some orange ones, some yellow ones, some white ones and some french ones. Purchase some variegated ivy as a house plant and grow the marigolds in a circle around it. Variegated ivy house plants draw spider mites like a magnet. Soon they will all have a good infestation of spider mites. After four weeks or however long you have, shake the plants of each color on a piece of white paper and count how many mites fall out of each color. That will tell you which marigold is most resistant (or least preferred) and which one is least resistant (or most preferred.)

You are supposed to plant them as a hedge around your plants because rabbits, skunks and other plant eating varmits don't like the smell and will stay away.
