The source of the tension is European Jewish Supremacists(called Zionists) going into Palestine 60 years ago and stealing the land from the people who were living there, and basing their claim on some fairy tale.
The ongoing tension comes from these same Zionists believing that the entire region belongs to the Jews (Greater Israel - again, based on the same fairy tale) and their desire to expand their Jewish only country by killing off all the Palestinians .
Note that they also believe that Lebanon, Syria and Iraq are part of their fairy tale "Greater Israel", which is why they are constantly stirring up sh!t in those countries and trying to get their servile attack dog, America, to attack those countries.
The Gaza Strip was established as Palestinian land, but of course the Jewish Supremacists believed that the Palestinians deserve nothing, so they built Jewish Settlements in that area, armed the Settlers to the teeth and allowed them to attack and kill Palestinians at will.
After decades of international pressure, Israel finally removed the settlements (at AMERICA's expense of course - we had to give each of the settler families thousands of dollars to move off of land that never belonged to them). However, over the past 10 years, Israel has been building new settelments in the West Bank (a Plaistine designated area) where over 270,000 armed Israeli Jews now live. Only this time, Israel calles these settelments "out posts" to give the impression that these manicured suburban homes for Jews only are not permanent structures - which of course they are.

The matter is very complex and would require a 250 page textbook to tell the entire story. Essentially, the UN gave the Jewish people a portion of Palestine in 1947 because it had been theirs centuries ago. Was this proper since the Jews didn't live there is any great numbers, I don't know. If this is the case then America should give back the entire country to the Indians which, of course, it will never do. Nevertheless, when the Jews took over their portion of the Palestine territory they invited the Arabs to share with them and promised that together they would build a successful and peaceful nation. The Arabs turned down the offer and attacked the Jews. The Jews defeated the Arabs and since then a conflict has ensued between the two groups. It still rages. The Jews returned the land sized during the 6 days war, but the Palestinians want it all back including the land that the Jews now occupy. The Jews will not give back the land that was given to them by the UN. And so the war continues. The Arabs are fighting back with terrorist actions killing thousands of Jews. The more they fight back the more determined the Jewish people in Israel become determined not to give in. When will this all end? Never, until one of the factions stops fighting. The Jews have already made major concessions, but apparently they weren't adequate to satisfy the Arabs. It is a mess and for what? LAND? This isn't unusual in history. People have been fighting for land since man was created. Land, power, money is what makes the world go round. It is interesting that none of the Arab countries have offered sanctuary to the Palestinians. You are one of us, so come to our land and live here in peace. No way. This too has been the Arab way for centuries. Separate tribes and interests, rarely getting together. Very unfortunate.

From the original Palestinian charter:
"Article 24. This Organization does not exercise any regional sovereignty over the West Bank in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, on the Gaza Strip or the Himmah Area. Its activities will be on the national popular level in the liberational, organizational, political and financial fields. "
Now why would the "Palestinians" not be interested in these areas while they were held by other Muslims, but suddenly consider them part of their "ancestral" home when they came under Israeli control?

My opinion is they should try and get along.. they have been fighting over nothing so long they truly think they have a fight with each other .. From what I under stand some one pissed on a rock back during biblical time or some thing like and now they have been fighting for 200 years... Any way everyone in the world is getting sick and tired of their crap and if they don't do something soon.. It looks like that whole area is going to get smoked.. after the smoke clears you will see Disney Word will move in and start Middle East World....

There is conflict because Arabs reject the existance of Jews in "their" part of the world.. Arab massacres of Jews started in the 1920's. A quarter of a century BEFORE Israel was a state. Israel has made more concessions for peace than any other country in history, only to be met with rejection & violence at each turn. There will not be peace as long as there ar Arabs living west of the Jordan River.

Some guy named Abraham had a couple of kids thousands of years ago, each kid went a different way and now the descendants and followers are fighting for the same piece of land or something like that.
