There seems to be an epidemic lately of people who can't spell their way out of a shoebox. :( I run into it mostly on the internet, of course. Here is one of the worst examples I've seen lately, in a blog...

"oppionings" -- when the person meant "opinions"

(What the heck was that person thinking?? You literally have to WORK at it to misspell a word that incorrectly! It's not even CLOSE!)

So, there's my example. I'm curious what juicy butcherings of the English language you folks have seen. ;-]

Actually it is one i saw on here, Yahoo.

Someone was looking for help with mythology.... and they spelt it "mytholocail" creature. Now like a previous response giver- that isn't even a misplaced letter, or swapping an "a" for an "e". There shouldn't EVEN BE an "i" in the "cal" part and where is the "G".

Took me ages to work out what she meant. Luckily i did and i was able to respond and snag a best answer. I figured no-one else answered as they didn't get the question! So that misspelling actually helped me!!!

The funniest one I saw lately on here, was a one sentence answer from a member. I don't even remember what the question was about, but the responders sentence was something like, "Take HER with you." Very short and simple.

Except instead of it saying that, they had written, "Take HERB with you." Which a spell check wouldn't even catch, but the person posting it should have. A small typo changed the whole meaning and made it humorous too.

A little off the subject here, but a girl I know was working in a gas station one night. Well in came this guy all red-faced and in such a rush. He wandered around a minute, then came to her and asked for CONDIMENTS. She said it took a few minutes, but she soon figured out that he really was wanting CONDOMS.

well, misspellings come from reading less and less. My friends marvel at the way I spell words and am able to work perfectly in the English Language. They seek my help always. You see, I got to be almost perfect because I always use English in writing my diaries, writing my poems and chatting on the internet (and corresponding by letters too), although my mothertongue is Arabic. I learnt to spell correctly by looking the words I doubt their spellings. So, pls everyone look up your words in a dictionary.
Another thing when one writes on the computer quickly they commit millions and millions of mistakes and they don't correct what they write. I do that when writing in answers, writing an online blog (which is on 360.yahoo.com by the way) and when writing a draft for an assignment or even when writing notes in class. I always go back to the dictionary to check my spellings . ...I hope you all do.

The one that keeps coming to mind is a girl in a reading class was asked to read out loud... she read the word calculus as "Kalkoozu". Its not the worst thing to be able to spell properly, the real issue here and on a computer- is spell check is simple to use. The point is... people just want to have fun... perfection is not taken into consideration.

I once seen secondairy it was supposed to be secondary. But what I don't understand is when someone writes a question, and the spelling is horrible, There's no reason for it they can't make it any easier ,Why don't they use spell check.

Conversate; conversating.
Technically, its not misspelled, its just a malappropism.
But many, many people use it; happily unaware..

Oh, also not misspelled, but so often mispronounced is the word nuclear. Our President peppers his speech with the extra "u" sound--nucular. Sheesh!

Completely off the subject, too, is how soooo many people pronounce the "t" in "often". It's silent, isn't it?

I saw someone type as a source "Math Genious", interesting word to choose to misspell.

To Angel D, I guess it's a good thing this clerk figured out what he was talking about, because he probably shouldn't be breeding.

Too many to mention, it doesn't bother me. I make mistakes when I rush.
The mistakes that others make should lead to a feel good factor, there are load of Yahooers out there who should think themselves lucky that they had a good education, some people were not blessed so.
