Its been weeks since I heard anything about this and I check all the hockey websites daily so I dont think I missed it, but how could they be making such a big deal about it one second and not talking about it the next.

My guess is they are moving to Kansas City. They still haven't reached an agreement in Pittsburgh yet. According to a recent report, everytime they workout one issue, another one comes up. I suspect, the team ownership is just holding out as long as possible before making an announcement that they are relocating because they know that it will kill ticket sales and attendance for the rest of this season. So, the longer they wait to make the decision the better off it is for the ownership group. But that's just a guess on my part.

Sure, Pennsylvania politicians keep trying to put a positive spin on things, but what do you expect them to do? It's an election year!!! Do you think they are going to come out and publicly say they can't reach an agreement with the team and risk pissing off all those registered voters/loyal Penguins fans??? Not a chance!

Kansas City is offering them an arena rent free and 50% of revenues for other events (like concerts) held in the arena for the next 30 years. That's a pretty sweet deal. Now, let's look at the Pittsburgh deal. Pittsburgh's offer reportedly requires the Pens to pay $2.9 million a year (though politicians say it's now down to $1.6 million a year) for the next 30 years towards the construction of the new arena in that city. You do the math! I feel bad for all those loyal Pens fans, but I think it's just a matter of time before the ownership group announces that an agreement can't be reached in Pittsburgh and they are relocating the team to Kansas City. They are just waiting to make the announcement until the season is almost over so they don't shoot themselves in the foot by killing their own ticket sales.

Probably Pittsburgh...They are talking to state officials via conference calls...Governor Rendell said this week that there are still a lot of details to be worked out but that there are "no deal breakers"...I know the Pens have been declining comments on the deal for the last 2 weeks, but public officials have said a few things to the affect of being close but not quite there yet. A cup will have nothing to do with where they end up because a deal somewhere will be done by then.

Rendell has also said in the past that if the Penguins try to leave he would go to the NHL to try to have them block a move. I think the NHL realizes that Pittsburgh is a great hockey city and I also think that they would like to keep markets open for future expansion. So i pray that if the ownership decides to move the NHL blocks it because lets face it, the deal they are being offered in Pittsburgh is a pretty good one.

Hanson...Rendell (who is the most important public official in the deal) has already been elected to another term beating Lynn Swann. Dan Onorato (Allegheny County Chief Executive) is uncontested for reelection as of Feb 10. So good try on the election year argument.

For the latest info on it check local sources instead of national ones like espn.

they said that they are staying in pittsburgh, at the arena. the agreement was when there is a concert or anything like that there, some of the money goes to the team.

nothing's been decided. city and team officials have been very hush-hush as of late. rumours are abound that the team is leaving and also that they are staying, but it's certainly up in the air.

and for the record, pittsburgh has an H in it.

They aren't offically talking to the State at the moment, so no news to report. Thing is they also aren't talking to anyone else either.

There is no news because they want the team to focus. Unless something drastic happens-they are in Kansas. There is just not enough parking at the igloo for all the bandwagons!
