I read a resolved question asking are Arsenal fans the most knowledgeable... made me smile...

The true fans out there will know (without reference to google or wikipedia) exactly where they came from, why they are called Arsenal and why their kit is red.

So, come on!

Oh, Im Villa by the way but the history of football is fascinating :)

ok, i've been an arsenal fan since winter of 1986-87 - i had 'the arsenal story' bought for my birthday a few years after, so yes, from that book I know that arsenal were formed by workers at an armaments factory in Woolwich, which is why they were called Woolwich Arsenal for a while, and their kit is red because two Arsenal players Fred Beardsley and David Danskin asked their former club, Nottingham Forest, for a set of shirts - hence why Arsenal play in red. So yeah, i know all of that stuff plus a good general knowledge of the history of the game. including Villa's glory days of 1890s and 1980s!!

i'm not saying arsenal fans are the most knowledgeable - no clubs' fans have a monopoly on knowledge - but yes, many Arsenal fans know and have a deep love for the history of the game, but that also applies to other fans too.

Arsenal or formally Woolwich Arsenal are so called because the origin of the club relates to the late 19th century when the team was formed from the Royal Artilleray. The early Arsenal players used to make guns and munition for Her Majesty's Army. Hence the emblem of a canon and the nickname 'Gunners'.

Not sure about the red and white kit though
