Thomas Jefferson. He wrote the Constitution. He also believed in a limited federal government and strong states' right.
Jefferson was a deist with a strong sense of morality and spirituality but little interest in dogma. And he put an end to the alien and sedition acts that stifled free speech.

I like any president who didn't want to be president. Gerald Ford who always wanted to be speaker of the house (never made it.) or William Howard Taft who was happiest as Chief Justice after his presidency. The guys who never envied the position made the best leaders. The best example is Washington himself.

FDR because he took us out of the depression, brought us through ww2 alomst to the end. Though disabled with polio he was able to hide his infemities and bring our country to its greatest power and prestiege with the rest of world,onlike now.
