Don't Be Sad
by Aaidh ibn Abdullah al-Qarni

Live life as it should be lived… wholesomely, happily and productively.

Do not expect gratitude from anyone

Many people are shocked at the nature of ingratitude in others, as though they had never come across this verse and others like it:

“ And when harm touches man, he invokes Us, lying down on his side, or sitting or standing. But when We have removed his harm from him, he passes on his way as if he had never invoked Us for a harm that touched him. (Quran, Surah 10, Verse 12).

Hence, do not be in a state of agitation if you give someone a pen as a gift and he uses it to satirize you. So be at peace if you are requited with ungratefulness for the good you have done. Rejoice in your knowledge that you will be rewarded from the One Who has unlimited treasures at His disposal.

Grieve not over unworthy things

There is not a single worry or concern whose significance is not diminished when it is compared to the concerns of the Hereafter. What are the worries of this life? They are status, prestige, fame, income, wealth and mansions. They are all nothing when compared to the accountability before Allah.

If you really cannot do something, leave it

I used to give the Friday sermon in the city of Abha. Most of my sermons dealt with different aspects of the Prophet’s (Pbuh) life and this became something of a speciality with me and was something with which I felt comfortable. Somebody had asked me to give a sermon about the increasing tendency of extravagant dowries. I was loath to comply with his request because I felt more comfortable in speaking about the biography of the Prophet. Nevertheless, I gave an impromptu sermon on the requested topic. I quoted verses from the Quran and sayings of the Messenger of Allah. I was covering the topic in a desultory manner, and as I was speaking, I felt the sweat trickle down my forehead. After my sermon was over, I felt that I had done a very poor job in speaking on the subject and so I resolved to stick to what I excelled at.

Everyone of us should work in a field that he is skilled in. The Prophet (Pbuh) said: “ Indeed Allah loves for each of you, when he works at something, to perfect it.”

and it is human to derive these truths by experiencing relationship in self and by others to come to know the field which purposes to occupy time and space and conscious energies of a man and a woman.

all that is brought to a person by an other is a gift tho' it may not look or feel nice as a gift.

it may be the gift which ask that love be re membered in the knowledge that an other may have been with fear at the meeting of an other and all exchanges as gifts.

to not be sad is a truth lived and experienced by a mature elder and may in the silence (meditations as practices) or wisdom (practices as meditations) bestow upon us.

the elder know what relationship means to a soul as has been gifted by the mind and body to elder.

to find purpose in life is to accept the all relative truths that there will be meeting with others on our path of finding which show us that our knowledge is not present there. which indicates that our strength of love has not the confidence to enable self skillfully in meetings.

ideas may seem to separate one self from an other. which show us that the purpose of a self is to achieve relation with the soul of self to know purpose in relationship to other.

all ways to accept. one way in purpose to accept.

the creator know our purpose for our creator is our purpose and our creator be our soul.

the mind and body which respond to soul respond everywhere knowing this truth.

fear invoked teaches all of us this truth. finally. evermore.

being sad is depressing. but with out sadness happiness would have no meaning. Life is built on an equal balance. Good and bad , stop and go , happy and sad. smart and stupid , rich and poor. slow and fast. short and tall . etc. without one you there wouldnt be the other. something cant be big if there is no small . There cant be rich if there are no poor, Your not going fast if there is no slow, You cant be good if there is no bad, a person is not tall if there is no short. SO you cant be happy if there is no sadness.
About what you said that people should only stick to what they are good at.
Good at by whos standards? Thats like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Maybe you felt you were not good at that one topic but to someone else you might of been really great and been very helpful in thier life. A person should never say cant . Becaue that would be a lie. Because somehow someway maybe not as good as someone else at that moment but if it is humanly possible than anyone can do it.

I'm sad because my friend said she wished she could have been part of the "popular" group in high school, even though for the past year she says she's glad to be her own person. She basically said she's tired of hanging out with me. So now i'm going to have like no friends this year and i'm going back to highschool in a week/: I feel ugly.
