I have read a few questions on here, where a parent is asking what to name their new baby, how can a parent go 9 months and not have any idea what to name their child? And then ask a bunch of strangers if they like the name they are thinking of, or what to name their child. When I was pregnant, my husband and I spent 9 months finalizing the name for a boy or girl, as we didn't know what we were having, and it was settled. I know some kids just don't look like a Stephanie, or a Jacob, but have a back up name. It just amazes me that parents can do this. Does anyone else feel this way?

I don't know if I am even pregnant yet... waiting to test. And my hubby and I already have a girl and boy name picked out. It does shock me that parents don't even have a clue as to what to name their child.

Perhaps they are just asking for suggestions so they can expand the list of names to consider. Some people have last names that are hard to match with first names. I cannot imagine a parent actually letting a stranger name their baby. When I was pregnant I asked nearly everyone I came across for an option on the names we were considering (I had one of those weird last names). We still made the final decision, but it was nice to get some feedback...and our "final decision" changed a few times during the first and second pregnancy. By the third pregnancy he said as it would be our last and I had to carry them all and go thru all the pain (like there was a choice) that I could name him whatever I wanted and he would not object. The name just isn't as important to some people as others I guess...I could never let someone else name my child.

I understand how ya feel I knew what my son's name was going to be when I was 14 weeks and it never changed! I already had my girls name in nothing flat (I think boys are harder to name so I spent a little time looking for one) I also don't get how parents can be torn between 5 or more different names! It was hard enough finding one name for my boy. Anyway I don't see nothing wrong with people wanting to get opinions but do agree that at 9mo they can't figure it out yet.......

Its all about getting acceptance from everyone, some people are more concerned with what other people think to make their own decisions. DH and I had our daughters name picked out 3 years before she was born, and this was before he joined the army and of course her name is Kaydence but I didn't care if it was an Army term, people make their comments now but I don't care because that's what we picked and its a beautiful name for my beautiful girl!

well, i'm 23 weeks and pregnant with my second boy and we can't decide on a name. it was the same with my first, he didn't have a name until after he was born. i don't see what is wrong with asking a strangers opinion on here. i've had some nice suggestions.

Um, what? Not sure if you're bothered or what. But, some people may just find it harder to name their child or maybe there are no names that have significant meaning to them so they figure I'll ask on Y answers and see what names are popular right now. I see nothing wrong with that.

i think it is odd that they don't know the name for their newborn, BUT don't see any problem in asking what people think. if it is a different, unique name, sometimes you just need to have some insight. to make sure you are making the right choice, the name a child have will be for the REST of your life and it is a huge decison. think that you are getting a lil bent out of shape about it, some just need some advice, and input. i didn't think of the names of my twins on my own, we had our family help. and i asked everyone i knew about what they thought about the names.

i think they're just bored. what i love is when they don't even have children yet, let alone a husband or a high school diploma, and start asking questions about whether "we" like this name or that name! read this if you want a really good laugh, on that note: http://www.notwithoutmyhandbag.com/babynames/index.html
