I have a 7 year old Ball Python. He usually eats anything I trow in his cage. I have noticed the last couple days he has been opening his mouth to breathe and his nose looks crusty. What should I do. Please serious answers only my reptile vet here is out o ftown and the next closest vet is five hours away.

Sounds like he has a respiratory infection . He needs to be seen by a vet ASAP .In the mean time keep him warm and clean the crusty stuff off gently with a warm damp Q-tip .He needs antibiotics . You might try calling the local humain society , local pet shops , or search for breeders to see if they can help you with medication .

As others have said it SOUNDS like RI. However, over the internet there is no way to tell you for sure. You need to raise the temps in his cage to about 90-92 throughout the entire cage. This will only slow the RI down and will NOT cure it. The snake needs antibiotics. You also need to get it to a herp/reptile vet ASAP. RI can and will kill your snake if it is not taken care of.

Again, there is no way for anyone on here to be 100% sure without actually seeing your snake. However it does sound like RI and should be checked out as soon as possible by a knowledgeable herp vet. Good Luck.

He has a respiratory infection. Keep him warm. Do you own a Vicks vaporizer? If so let the vaporizer run in the same room as the snake cage. That will help him out. Seems odd, but it helps a lot. You’re vet will probably prescribe Bay trill shots to you, these will be injected under the scales of the snake.

I'd call the vet that is 5 hours away to see if you can get a phone consultation. It sounds sick to me. I grew up on a farm and we didn't have snakes, but my father used to always say that if an animal had a dried up nose it meant it was sick.
