Yes I did and yes it is shameful, though not unexpected, that they'll ignore it. But what's even more annoying is that Mr BLiar is going to email everyone who signed the petition to put the government argument (presumably that's his idea of consultation). The petition website says 'Your email will not be published, and is collected only to confirm your account and to keep you informed of response to this petition'. Apart from being awful English, I'm not sure that this gives the government the right to spam me. Certainly if ever get an email from the labour party, with or without the offer of a knighthood, I'll know how they got my email address and sue. Any experts on data protection care to comment?

Ooh I did sign it a few days ago, has it been dismissed? It can't be surely, when I signed it there were already 1.3 million! Anyway, they can't go ahead with it as it just isn't economically possible yet. They can whinge and argue all they like but the fact is that it would cost millions to enforce; they'd have to get satalites in to trace the cars, and cars will have to be fitted with the tracer thing, they'd have a bugger of a problem getting everyone to pay up, they'd have to make public transport better, they'd have to make roads better.... the list goes on - they will just not be able to do it. Greedy little sods...

No. We have to do something about congestion and road charging should be given sensible consideration, not kicked into touch by short term green and self interest.
I wonder how many people who signed this petition actually understood the issues. Some of the emails circulating, encouraging people to sign were complete distortions of the current government position.
And it is perfectly proper for a minister to dismiss it. We elect these people to make the difficult decisions for us - and if we don't like it, we replace them at the next election. We don't have government by plebiscite in this country - thank goodness.

Oops, I didn't even know about this petition! That is a shame about it's dismissal like that, I wonder if the online petition actually means anything, or whether it's just a way of making the public feel as if they count?

Online petitions never work. For all the judges know, it's the same person signing it over and over. Nobody in law takes online petitions seriously. Never had, never will.
Now, if it had been paper petitons, it would have been treated differently, with more respect. If they wanted to, they can prove that that person actually signed the paper.

No, i do no longer think of they're going to. This government has jumped on the possibility to squeeze yet extra money from the regularly occurring public. the fees they're quoting won't stay at those tiers. they're going to take each and every danger to enhance it each and every 12 months!! Plus there is not any assure they're going to do away with highway tax, they simply suggested it is going to "be reviewed"!! Roll on vote casting day!!!

thats just typical I guess. I cant believe they want to charge us per mile now, does that mean we dont have to pay for petrol anymore, what a joke. If there is anyway they can make money, they will and they dont care who cant affort it, it doesnt matter to them. I just cant believe they have binned the petition, I think its all a democtracy and a shambles

I signed it, but like i said in my original answer it won't make any difference because the government will ride roughshod over it and dismiss it out of hand. I'm surprised i never got stealth taxed for answering it., maybe they'll just charge me for emptying my recycle bin.

I have signed. Yes - it is typical of Labour arrogance - they are going to have to take account of what the average Briton thinks about this - or lose the next election.
