I absolutely LOVE the smell of lilacs, but live in an apartment and have no back yard. Is there a miniature version of the bush that can be grown indoors in a container?

Lilacs do not make good indoor plants as they need a cold dormancy period. And they need lots of sunlight, which is very hard to give them indoors unless you have a conservatory or solarium. You could possibly put them out doors for the summer, fall, and winter, and then bring them indoors just as they are beginning to bloom in spring. they need a lot of sunlight in order to set flowering buds for the next year. You could put them on a balcony if you have one, but they wont survive out of the ground in pots if you live in a cold winter climate. The smallest lilac i know of is one called "Miss Kim" its supposed to grow only 3 or 4 feet tall but usually ends up growing at least 6. and you have to be careful with pruning lilacs; you can only prune them immediately after they are done flowering. if you prune them at any other time, they will not bloom the following year.
