how do i clear the search bar?

Go to tools--->internet options----> clear the cookies and files including offline files---> and then clear the history. Once u do this, click apply and the click OK.

I've got IE 6. To delete search history, I click on:

tools
in general tab of "Internet Options" pop-up
in "History" section
click on "clear history" button

if you ahve the old search bar, click on the pencil and clear search history. if you got the new search bar, it's under settings.
