When I'm doing cardio, sweating, or my heart rate is up while exercising, afterwards my stomach seems to swell up. It stays bloated for the rest of the day, and I can't for the life of me figure out why? It usually happens when I'm sweating for a long period of time, more than say, a half-hour. Any guesses as to why this is?

I always drink water before and during, but it still happens even when I don't drink water.

This happens to me too, and I am perfectly healthy. My guess is that you're sweating out electrolytes (lots of salt) and to regulate water levels, your cells release water to compensate. (This is for balance's sake--your body's cells like to maintain a certain fluid/salt equilibrium.) So when your cells release water, the water goes into the extracellular space--i.e. body tissue. Since the stomach area is notorious for retaining water, it's no wonder that your stomach would end up looking bloated.

I don't think you need to go to a doctor unless you notice pain or discomfort in the stomach area after exercising, but it wouldn't hurt to ask him/her about it during your next physical.

It could be caused by your breathing while exercising. If you breathing out while trying to work on your abs or stomach area it can cause you to put unneeded pressure on your stomach and cause it to swell.

Bad circulation? Water retention?

I don't know. Sounds like something you oughta ask a doctor. I've never dealt with it.

That's odd. I don't know what that could be. Maybe you should see a doctor about it.
