Hi -

Most small businesses go bankrupt in a matter of years. My Dad owned a business for 14 years, and then went bankrupt. Being self employed is more time consuming, and has more of a risk then being an employee.

Am I saying go and work for someone else? No! Read Robert Kiyosaki's book titled "Cash Flow Quadrant"

If this is something you have dreamed of doing, and really really want to, then go for it. Just make sure that you have your finances in order before you get into something you may not be able to get out of.

Also, since you are not a franchise, you would have to charge a lot more then the auto repair franchises. "High profit - lower volume". The franchises do the opposite. "Low profit, high volume".

I wish you luck, and hope you get what you are looking for!

What kind of repairs? Tires/align/brakes/front end or engine/trans or....?

Do you know how to fix cars?
Do you know how to talk with people?
Do you know how to back up your work?
Are you a self-motivator?
Do you understand that your customers' perception of your service is more important than the work that you actually do?
Do you really want to solve problems?
Are you willing to deal with assholes? And have them leave your shop feeling like winners?
Do you want your "comebacks" to be your "regulars"? Or would you rather have "Zero Comebacks"?
Do you want to make $ by solving your customers' automotive problems to the best of your ability?

If so...............

welcome to the brotherhood of automotive professionals.

"If you fix it, they will come".

it's a great idea if your a technician but if you don't have the education of digital fuel injection or computer softwear in cars and trucks then don't bother unless you have technicians working for you then maybe it'll be slow at first....
