Both were issues of concern to much of the population. There were demonstrations against the war and for women's rights, especially the ERA (equal rights amendment). It was an era of protest in the US with a vocal and activist population.such as hasn't been seen since. It seemed that people could not seperate feelings against the war from recognizing soldiers were doing a job and many veterans were treated badly.
