The basic configuration of the console has a 20 GB internal hard drive.
The "premium" version of the PlayStation 3 comes with an internal 60 GB 2.5" Serial ATA hard drive, IEEE 802.11b/g Wi-Fi connectivity, multiple flash memory card readers (SD/MultiMedia Card, CompactFlash, Memory Stick) and features a chrome-colored trim

Sony set out to make the PS3 your home media center, with the ability to download and upload movies music and all kinds of media. The 60 G will offer more space to do exactly that, but if you just want strictly a game console the 20 will operate exactly the same, same games, same speed, same graphics. Added: The HD size has "ZERO" to do with speed. Think of it as a hose filling a 20 gallon bucket vs. a 60 gallon the water (data) goes the same speed the 60 just holds more. This is what makes the machine fast: 1 gig of sram Main RAM 25.6GB/s RSX @550MHz Total floating point performance: 218 GFLOPS These specs are the same for both.

The biggest difference between the two is the hard drive: 60 or 20 gigs. Also, the 60 gig has a chrome finish, built in WiFi, and SD slots. Plus, the 60 gig is easier to find.

Well yes the 60GB has the shiny metal piece(trim) and the 20BG doesn't also the 60GB one comes with WLAN built into it so you can play online without having to get a WLAN cable. And if you're getting a ps3 and you have an HDTV than get HDMI cables for about $30 makes the picture even better. The most popular ones are monster cables but you don't need them and HDMI cables will work.

ok the 4 PHYSICAL differences, are less USB ports in the back of the console, the ability to open a slot to insert memory cards, PLAYSTATION 3 is written in Chrome on the 60gb (black on the 20gb) and the chrome trim around the disk drive. its like a fun-house mirror
