What's the best way to hinder the inevitable fading process? Is there a particular soap or way to wash to avoid this? I leave my clothes outside to dry, out of the reach of the sun, but I still find my clothes fading fairly quickly.

I wash my clothes in cold/cool water and add a teaspoon of table salt and no dryer { as the water is filing add the liquid soap let the water fill up a bit then add the salt, let the washer run for a minute then add the clothes then add a bit more salt}. I know that it sounds weird but try it, it really works. Of course after a while your clothes will fade but the color will last a bit longer than regular washing. The salt helps the color from bleeding on the other colors too(like multi colored shirt). Let me know how it works for you. Oh and I read that vinagar helps too but I haven't tried that yet since I read about today. The salt always works for me. Good luck, Nina J

Don't use chlorine bleach. Find a liquid detergent used for cold water washes. Wash clothes in cold or luke warm water. Use oxygen bleach. Use a dryer on lower settings. Hanging clothes exposes them to sunlight, even when not hanging in the sun.
Make sure you buy good quality, color-fast clothing.
My clothes fall apart before they fade a shade.

Try turning them inside out EVERY time you wash them....also use a detergent formulated for bight or dark colors ( i.e. Woolite Dark, or Cheer for dark colors ) If this doesn't seem to work, try having your water tested...sounds like you may have "hard" water.. You local city, water , and light department should check a sample ( you provide in one of their containers ) at no cost...depending on the outcome, you might need to add water softener tablets or do something mechanic, such as a water softening system added to your water pipe faucets. Hope this helps!

seperate whites from colors, especially reds and pinks. Also use a quality detergent, not the cheapest store brand. The cheap stuff really fades clothes. Best brands I have found are Cheer and ALL. ALL is cheaper than Cheer and works well.

yes well the sun bleaches your clothes the natural way . so if you want your whites super white put them into the direct sun light
your colored clothes always turn them inside out when washing and the same when you hang them out . like this the sun will only discolor the inner side of the clothes.
