white petunias, white snapdragons, white vinca, white verbena, white phlox, white baby's breath. the white will tone down and unite all the vibrant colors of the glads. All these flowers can take full sun and heat and will be blooming long before the glads, and are low enough that they will not block the glads. baby's breath look great with glads--make successive sowings of the baby's breath so you have some continuously in bloom (sow some every 2 weeks in late april, may and early june) cut down the ones that have finished blooming to make room for the newer ones. Use the mid-height snapdragons, as the tall ones will block the glads.

Try Phlox carolina (maculata) 'Miss Lingard', also known as Wedding Phlox. It has pure white flowers. Being from the Carolinas it is used to hot and humid, and is much more resistant to mildew, the bane of the regular garden phloxes. It will just bloom and bloom if you keep it deadheaded.
