Try looking either at the store or online at Hobbylobby.com. Michaels and ACMoore are other places to look. I am not sure what it is called.

It sounds like you might like to try quilling. Look into it.

One of the names for the lacing is 'gimp'. What you make with it is called a 'lanyard'. As another answerer said, http://www.boondoggleman.com/index.htm is the site you should go to to learn MANY different designs. You should be able to get the 'gimp' at any large craft store. Look in the children's craft section. ( sorry but that's where they would stock it ). Did you know this is not a new craft? It was popular in the 50's. If you know someone older, maybe they could help you if you have any problems. Have Fun!

be creative and find something else to lace OR offer to do a special chore for your dad in exchange for the plastic

Take it easy. It's lanyard string. You can get rolls of it at Micheals craft store.
