New solutions for the general or just the majority? Uh, I have no idea what the difference is. I think you mean that you want to know if science should only find answers to problems that help every body or should they ALSO seek answers to problems a small minority would benefit from.

Science is chained to funding. They search for problems that can support the research. Because we all have the same basic body, often solutions to obscure problems are found in the search for broader questions.

As an analogy, it is a better, more effective, approach to cast a wide net and get as many answers as possible then to tromp around the swamp searching for the odd fish. Even if funding could be made specific to problems even then this would still be the case. Until we know more about the human body, this will continue to be the most effective pursuit for answers to the problems that human bodies can be afflicted with.

I think the focus of scientists should be to get us off this rock before we destroy it... unfortunately more than half the world's scientists are busy thinking up better ways to kill our fellow man....

the general public is the majority but they also need money for research so there will allways be comprimise untill we lose our fear of total freedom.
