Alright my doctor had told me that I wasn't ovulating and haven't been for a while (after reviewing my charts) but I wasn't going to let that discourage me from still testing with ovulation predictor kits. so I have been using one everyday for the last few days and yesterday I got my positive ( doctors aren't always right I suppose) and along with that positive I was having the most horrible ovulation pains followed by very heavy fertile discharge. So we had sex last night and then today I took another OPK and it was negative. Is it normal to only have one positive one for one day or should it have been longer. I know it detects the surges and all but my question is since the OPK is no longer positive does it mean that I already ovulated or do I still have one more night to try?? I am not expecting this month to become pregnant seeing as this is the first month in many that I have actually ovulated. Advise would be wonderful thanks

Yes it is normal to have only one day of positive OPKs, I didn't have a positive one at all and I got pregnant. They usually show positive 12-36 hours before ovulation so you need to start heavy baby dancing. Also I assume you chart your BBT since you made reference to the charts. You will know you Od when you have a clear and sustained thermal shift. So OPKs are great. but that don't always work for everyone. Oh and the Doctor is probably right about previous months, this could just be the one your body does O. So I would defiantly get it all checked out to increase your chances of conception.

Some people have a very short LH surge, and can test in the morning and see a positive, and in the evening, using the same test and not see the surge. Some people find their surges last longer.

However, if your doctor reviewed your charts and it doesn't appear you're ovulating, there are some medical conditions, like PCOS that can affect the accuracy of OPKs even without ovulation.

The LH surge normally only last 12 hours. You will ovulate 12 to 36 hours AFTER you see your surge. Then the egg stays for 24 hours. It is best to have sex at least once a day for 3 days after you see your surge. So yes its perfectly normal that it went away.

I use cheap ones from ebay as clearblue ones are quite dear. You could use the cheap ones until you get a posative then test again with a more expesive one.
