Why is it that when I am asleep I get choked? I wake up choking on what looks like clear/yellowish liquid. This happens all the time.
Example: It's like you are asleep with your mouth open and someone pours about a shot glass of water in your mouth before you take your next breath and then when you do you get strangled.
Please advise on what this could be.

You seem to have regurgitation from your stomach. This usually happens because of acid-peptic disease or because the gasto-oesophageal sphincter, which keeps the stomach contents from coming back to your mouth. It can happen following a heavy meal and is also seen in obese individuals, or it just could be because of laxicity of the sphincter.

Try reducing your weight and cut down on the size of your meal. Use a thick pillow while you sleep as it will help you. Your doctor might like to prescribe some medicines to take care of the sphincter control as well as some medicines for the acid-peptic disease. If the problem keeps recurring thereafter also, then you may have to undergo some tests for your gall bladder as well as an endoscopic examination for the oesophageal sphincter. Good luck.

All of the above plus - I salivate in my sleep and end up choking at least weekly. When I lay down I try to position myself so my mouth is lower than my throat. Sometimes it's yellowish when I have post nasal drip.

Try talking to dr. about taking an antihistimine before bedtime if you think it's sinus drainage.

It sounds like you could have a back drip. Or maybe even sleep Abnea. If you say it's yellowish, I would think more that it's a back drip caused by some type of Allergy. Try sleeping on two pillows.

It could be from eating and drinking too close to bedtime or a prelude to a gastric disorder. I would check with my doctor and explain this.
