I have heard a rumour that black tape on the top of the stick can make holes in the palms of your gloves quicker than white tape.
You can not prevent this otherwise and will have to get them re-palmed by a leather shop or buy new gloves.

If you are okay with the holes Crash (earlier answer) is correct, it is perfectly legal and actually some guys like the feel of getting the stick more on the bare hand. If you want them repaired they can be repalmed. To prevent them from wearing out quickly in the future try linseed oil (sporting goods stores carry it, very common on baseball mitts) or buy scotchguard spray and spray on a coat every couple months. Both ways keep the moisture from building up on the leather but scotchguard tends to make a stick a bit slippery (linseed oil isnt as bad). If that happens just use a roll of stick tape and roll it up and down the shaft, it will make the shaft a little tacky improving the grip.

I had the same problem. The best way to get it fixed is to ask around the rink and find someone who does general repairs on HOCKEY equipment. He will most likely put a leather patch in there, i recommend asking for something more durable because although a little thicker you grow into it and if you love your gloves it is worth it. Also this most likely happened to your left hand if you shoot right (vice versa) and i was told when i got mine fixed that if you use black tape on the butt end then it will wear faster because of the dye. Using white tape will prolong the life of your palms but eventually it happens to everyone.

Well, this is perfectly normal and legal. As long as you do not purposely make the cuts in your gloves, it is fine to have holes in them. Although, if you do want them repaired, you can go to just about any pro shop and ask them if the re-palm gloves. Usually runs for about 25$ a palm I think.

I wouldn't fix them...you can have better stick control with them open. Players used to cut the palms out of their gloves for that reason. I'm not sure if that's legal any more but it does give you more control and I wouldn't fix it.

the repalming works but dont waste your time doing that yet, wait untill the holes are really bad cuz its a pain to take em in and wait to get them back. the biggest thing you can do is to not use black tape on any part of your stick you hold (black tape eats away at your gloves cuz of acid in the tape)

It naturally happens with use. you could try using some tape for now. You should make sure you get a good brand of gloves so they won't wear down so quickly.

go to a shoe store and have them sew the palms where needed or replace the leather palm with a new one and have them sew it.
