Yahoo provides a spell-checker and an opportunity to review before send, but still so many questions and answers are full of errors.

Is this the type of writing that's acceptable in public schools now?

I do use spell check ,just in case because you get in a hurry. Last week to a question I spell checked this jerk goes on and answers with "How can you be such a bad speller?" The only thing I did not change that was found in spell check was the plural of potatos is potatoes. I guess he was the bad speller because he "saw" all these mistakes that were only in his head. About the writing in public schools my daughter who is in high school shares her notes and e-mails from boys that she wants me to help her understand. I cannot believe how none of her friends or especially the boys can spell very well at all. We have a hard time deciphering some of them, and I'm not talking about the texting and IM'ing lingo that shortens words. I see a huge problem with general knowledge in spelling. Spelling used to be a subject when I was in school, not so much when my kids were in elementary school. YES, I spellchecked!!

Well, Yahoo answers is not made just for Americans, you know, English is my 3rd language as it is for a lot of other people out there, I try the best I can. I do use the spell check but that doesn't mean I won't make any grammatical mistakes. I find it nice to be able to communicate with people from all different parts of the world, sorry that it bothers you...

I just answered the question that you posted after this. It was an interesting endeavor, to say the least. I am sure that if there were a grammar checker available, people would ignore it just as much as they do the spell checker. I find that there are people that are in such a hurry to answer questions and toddle off with the paltry two points. They tend to overlook the bigger reward and the satisfaction of knowing that the appropriate response was given.

No, that writing is not accepted in public schools now. People just use IM words like...
for to or two people would use, 2
for, for or four people would use, 4
for back people would use, bak
for you people would use, u
stuff like that.
Or people just don't take the time to run it through spell check. I'm a teenager and I do that, but I do run it through spell check. It is just what teenagers do.

Well with the internet, abbreviations and shorthand writing are a lot easier to many. So most people don't bother to learn the right way or they just blame it on a slip of the fingers on the keyboard.

It makes me crazy too. I am a high school teacher and in my school it is not accepted or condoned. I think its all the texting, posting on message boards, and unfortuantely laziness and apathy.

People just don't take the time to check their grammar and spelling.

Most people write badly. They often do not know the rules, and just as often do not care.
