I have a pair of Puma Basket sneakers I had for over 3 years, and wore them without socks (I hate wearing socks) all the years I owned them, and they smell VERY BAD!! I tried everything to get rid of the smell, I tried putting deodorant on my feet before putting them on my feet, I tried spraying them with foot odor spray, even airing them out outside. Now when I take them off my feet, (this happened to me the other day) the whole living room smells bad, and it remains in the room for a good 2 hours. I do not want to throw these sneakers away, because they are so comfortable on my feet. I love these sneakers, and want to keep them as long as they hold up. Is there any other ideas to get rid of the odor? Is there another foot odor spray to kill the odor?

I have heard that kitty litter placed in the sneakers and left overnight will absorb the odors. it's worth a try!

I wash my shoes every half year and they hardly smell. If that doesn't work and you've already failed at using foot odor spray, then I think you should just throw them out.
And don't spray deodorant on your feet because after a while the sweat will come out. Since your feet aren't out in the open air and are stuck in a pair of stuffy sneakers, the mixture of deo and sweat is going to stink like hell. Foot odor spray is fine, but just NOT deodorant.

I have done it, but I bought the shoes brand new, I have been the only one wearing them... I would not recommend wearing thrift store sneakers without socks... I don't really like wearing mine without socks, I only did it when I was going outside to the mail until I got a pair of slippers.

You can try washing them in washing machine during a period when it's not going to rain and then setting them outside to dry for a couple days. Then when you wear them spray insides with Febreze and wear socks before putting them on.

Wash them in cold water, gentle cycle. Add 1/3 cup of detergent. Put a towel in with them to help scrub them. If they have removable inner soles. take them out and add to the washer. Never put them in a dryer, just let them air dry.Plus you can buy odor-eaters,charcoal infused liners that you put inside your shoes to neutralize the odor.Good luck!
