most chinese restaurants are family owned. They just keepin it in the family. Im not sure if the ones workin at the place up the street are even getting paid. If they are they are getting mad overtime.
BTW, in the mall, the workers are hispanic (didn't even notice until I heard them talking to eachother). And there is a soul food place that has asians in the kitchen.

I worked in a Chinese restaurant in Cincinnati for a year while I was getting my degree. The lady was very nice, fed me for free, and treated me like other employees if not better. The problem is, with us not tipping, being demanding, and having bad manners in general when we go out to eat, why would they want most of us working there. They have a very service oriented culture. Also, most Blacks don't really know Chinese food. Moo Goo Gai Pan is a Chinese dish, not chicken wings and fried rice.
And by the way, to the person talking about the ingredients, the chicken IS really chicken. Chinese don't eat dogs and cats; the only ones who eat dogs are Koreans who raise a special kind of yellow dog for consumption. I think buying chicken by bulk would be cheaper than luring stray cats, especially to a busy restaurant. That doesn't even make sense, money wise. If you check out www.snopes.com, they show that that rumor has been in play since the 1800's once the Chinese started competing with local restaurant owners in England.

It is a way of supporting their own community, and making it easier to communicate with their workers so their restaurant can be as efficient and profitable as possible. Most workers at a Chinese restaurant are related to the family or know the family, perhaps they have just recently immigrated, or are young or need a job - obviously it's not wrong to support others in your own community. And I doubt there's tons of non-Chinese waiting to get a job at Chinese restaurants.

That's not true, I've seen all races work in a Chinese restaurant, I think most of the time they just employ family members though!

It's probably a language thing. The business is family owned/operated-a traditional part of their culture that has been going on for thousands of years. Family members & relatives work other jobs and scrimp and save whatever they can to finally open their own place. Their sense of dedication to family and work (to survive) is deeply ingrained- which, I think is probably due to harsh conditions in past & present day China.
I know a guy who owns a fast-food restuarant in the Bronx. He told me that when he was a young man in Canton, China, he was lucky enough to find a job 2 learn to cook. He worked 12-14 hours a day (every day) for almost 2 years....bla-bla-bla....just so he could save enough $ to leave China.
Just enjoy the food. Personally, I wouldn't really wouldn't want 2 work in a chnese rstrnt-I'd feel really out of place.

I agree with you to a certain degree. However, asians in general work together to become successful, usually its family and friends working at the restaurant. I have noticed that they do hire other races when that particular race is the majority customer. Also, some cooks and diswashers are usually Latino.

I've noticed Chinese seem to be very insular. BUT I have seen multiple races working in Chinese restaurants. Perhaps the one you refer to is family owned and run. Maybe its easy to find workers in their neighbourhood so they simply get them from there.
Have you applied to one?

I don't know where you're from chick, but where I live, the Chinese restaurants would probably close down if it weren't for black labor.
