Race prejudice has always existed. It was a type of prejudice that gave the people an excuse to own slaves. They believe they were giving the heathens Christianity. It has been and will be.

Race prejudice had existed before slavery, all through history. Slavery was a result of racism, not the cause. Just look at the caste system of India, Egypt and the Jews, etc. Ignorant people fear what they do not know, and are proud of what they are given, not what they accomplish. Therefore, feeling superior is all they have.

Slavery didn't cause racism, racism caused slavery. White settlers have always chosen to push their culture on others whom they encountered over history. They've labeled Native Americans and Africans Slaves as savages who needed culture. When in fact both races were fine thousands of years before ever laying eyes on a White person.

Slavery did not cause race issues, but it certaintly did not help it. Do a little research, there were race conflicts in acient egypt, with the Mayans, in French history and especially in India. But to answer the first part of your question, if a certian group of people started treating you like less of a person and threatened your life if you tried to resist, and sold you, your kids, your siblings like they were property and did this for hundreds of years, how would you look at that group of people?

There has always been race/gender prejudice, there has always been slavery of races/genders for as long as humanity has existed and still exists to this day. Humanity sucks.

Because one race thought it was inferior to the other and held them in slavery. To me, just because it did not exist does not mean racial prejudice did not happen. You can be enslaved to something and someone without shackles.

It is weird to me that initail when the Dutch introduced Africans to America they were treated as indentured servants not slaves. I wonder when the tide turned?
