We used to have a washing machine where the rubber drain hose let the water out in a laundry tub. We kept a lint catcher or even a piece of nylon hose over the end and it caught quite a bit of lint before it could get into the household drain pipes. Now we have a washing machine which has the rubber drain hose going right into a pipe on the wall behind the machine. Do they sell lint catchers to attach at the end of that hose or some contraption to keep the plumbing from getting clogged or isn't that a concern when the drain hose goes directly into a pipe? I'm afraid that nylon hose would be pretty disgusting hanging directly in the pipe and would need to be removed several times per week. Does anyone have a solution?

My washing machine has a lint catching, plastic toothed gizmo which traps and lint when the water is recycled in the wash and rinsed cycles. Maybe you can configure something in yours or it may even have one that you don't know is there. Mine is removable so that the lint can be cleaned.

The wife if she is a stay at home House Wife, she needs to take her function seriously and clean lint traps. If she does the same thing with the Dryer lint trap - it could catch fire and burn you and her out of house and home. It sounds like she doesn't think its a big deal. Show her it is and refuse to wet vac the floor - tell her to do it and if she don't, the floors will rot through. MAKE her a believer. I don't believe a marriage should be a stressful one, and I am not trying to encourage arguments between husband and wife - but trust me, women do not hesitate to make men a believer when given ultimatums. This is one instance where she will learn to clean the Lint Trap on the washer OR face vacuuming the water every time it gets clogged. Its easier to change the lint trap.

If this is your home just change the rubber drain hose so it drains the way you used to have it. If not complain to the landlord until he gets fed up with you and pluming costs, or move out.
