One or more schools say they want you. When the signing period for the sport opens, the school supplies you with a letter of intent to sign saying you will play for that school.

But the letter of intent is not with the school. It is with a third party that most colleges and universities use to regulate signing.

Of course if you mean gat like shoot the letter of intent, that would be different.

I'm not totally sure, but I think you sign a letter of intent if a university is recruiting you, otherwise, if you really want to play for a team, but they dont go after you, you have to try out.

there have been a lot of good success stories of atheletes who didn't get recruited but did very well after they worked hard to make the team.

either way, hard work goes a long way.
