The age for inviting women for smears is now 25. Research shows that cellular changes in the cervix of women under 25 are very common and very normal;reverting back to their usual state of their own accord. Therefore, screening these women is not indicated and very likely to detect naturally occurring abnormalities which are of no real concern and which do not require further assessment. Women who have been called for smears since 18 will continue to be called on a 3 yearly basis...following negative results. Do not worry.

go to your local well woman clinic. It is important that all females have a smear once they become sexually active. I had my first smear when i was 17 never missed any smear appointments. However, over the past three years i have received on going treatment for precancerous cells, the nurse told me if untrested or not detected i could be in serious trouble now. good luck

There is much debate about this. A few years ago we were directed to smear from 18 years. I read a journal article earlier this week advocating more smears in under 25 year olds.
I have to say if someone came to our practise we would happily smear them at your age especially if they requested one!

Go to the family planning clinic or well woman's centre get your smear and put your mind at rest. The health professionals want us to take a more active interest in keeping ourselves well by screening, diet etc. but when they decide to save money on something all that goes out the window. Its a very remote chance there will be anything wrong with you but you owe it to your children to keep yourself well.

I have been having them since i was 19 but this was due to problems i thought though if you had kids you could have one done. It is aged 25 so you only have 3 years to wait

The new age they have set is 25- their research says that you are so unlikely to have problems before that age that it is a waste of time. If you persist they may do it earlier, especially if there is a family history of abnormal results.

where are you because if you are in UK I havent heard of this, you have been sexually active so even if the age has gone up they should still give you one because you have had sex and kids and you have never had a smear
