Last night, I went to the ER with back pain and "cramping". Im 33 weeks and had been feeling like that on and off for a few days. So yesterday, I was so sick, that I finally decided to go. Well when I got there, they hooked me up to the machine, and told me that there were "cramps" showing up...later they told me those were contractions. But, Shouldnt they have checked to see if I had dialated or anything? And they asked me if I had any swelling anywhere, I told them my feet. Shouldnt they have checked that too? They told me I have a UTI, and gave me antibiotics, but didnt really explain anything. What causes a UTI. I've heard that theyre common in late pregnancies, I was just curious as to what causes them. Thanks, sorry It was so long!! any advice will help!

Hi, I had this same problem, I've been having UTI problems throughout my whole pregnancy. It got so bad I had REALLY bad back pains, painful braxton hicks, and I was sweating and shaking so bad. I went to labor and delivery because I thought something was wrong. They hooked me up to the thing that checks for contractions, the doctor only found 1...they didn't check me to see if I was dilated or anything, they just made me take a urinalysis and said I have a UTI, they also prescribed me antibiotics and I went home. I felt better when I went back home the back pain went away, it was also because I was dehydrated, so when I drank alot of water, I was better. There's some things that cause a UTI, like not taking care of yourself there and not wiping correctly.

No your not wrong. I mean with UTI that can cause a lot of the braxton hicks, I had the same thing and im 32 weeks pregnant. But they also did a exam and a ultra sound so im not sure why they didnt check you all out. YOu need to make sure baby is doing good.

They should have explained things to you. They checked me every time, I had contractions from 28 weeks on and I was checked often. UTI's are caused from so much, wipe front to back, pee before and after sex, caffeine and chocolate can case these.

Good luck

You can have braxton hicks contractions and that is what it could have been, but yes they should have checked to see if you were dilated. You are getting anxious and tired of carrying all that weight around, and I can understand that I was there also, so bear with it and you will get to see your little bundle of joy soon enough.

As soon as your regular doctors office opens again I would go there. You should not still have questions and they should have checked. I would also complain to the hospital that you went to, it is not right that they did not check you out properly.
