We could be a much more powerful country if we didn't. On all kinds of shows, they show "funny" videos with people wasting food. Just last night on AFV, people were wasting milk. Milk, which they bought from factory farms. Factory farms! ASPCA should do something about that...
But I'm talking about food wasting, not factory farms.
Somewhere in Africa, there is a child dying of starvation. We have enough food to feed the world, and NO ONE would go hungry. At least, we would if Americans would stop wasting food!
This flippancy is going to destroy society in the future. Why doesn't anyone see this?

Better question: Why don't people care about anything important? Why is it so flippant?
If this was in Jokes And Riddles, I'd have gotten about 25 answers by now. Why does America care more about entertainment than society?

I doubt other countries are that much better than us. People are selfish, but we probably wouldn't waste nearly as much if the people were starving on the streets near our houses.

Well we've got so much we don't appreciate it. Our "poverty level" is many countries "doing pretty nicely" level.
