HI,
First I want to stick up for you to the guys insulting you with their get real remarks . They must lead extreamly shelterd lives. That happened to my next door neighbor and i could hear gun shots coming closer ...it was a teenage girl screaming please help me..... please let me in .... My neighbor didn't let her in . I had my 1 year old child in my arms . It was one of those moments that you don't have time to think you simply react, as I was looking at her I could see she was out of sight from where the guns were coming and my door would have but her under the spotlight and the gunmen couldn't miss her ...my neighbor did not have her light on .this was at the same time the car was passing so i ducked down with my baby .....they couldn't see the young woman...thank goodness {she was smart to go the spot out of sight}....and the car passed leaving the girl safe...this all happened in just a second or two and i am grateful i noticed everything and knew she was safer where she was ...if I had opened my door and called her to my home ...she would have been dead because im sure she would have made a run for my door putting her under the light in plain site. Ive often wonderd if I had judged it wrong and the girl had been found and killed would I feel responsible ....and I can say that my mind would say no that I had to protect my baby no matter what....but my heart would have felt I had been a coward even though my knee jerk reaction was not based thinking of myself but of what was the smartest thing to do. The young girl already had made the smart choice by not coming to my door but at the same time i think....yeah thats easy to say.....she wasnt harmed...I can still see her in my mind...and it frightens me all over again....and it turned out that she herself was not personaly being sought after ..it was a gang drive by thing and they were shooting ...just shooting ...hoping to hit ...someone ...anyone...I don't know how the girls life turned out ...but it is not hard to imagine the men in the car are most likely dead...at best in prison. Thank You for the oportunity to tell my story It isn't one that I can truly reconcile with but this venue has made me feel better about it.
PEACE

This is a complex question with many possible variables, I live with my two adult sons, and I have a 91 pound albino doberman, so just letting someone in wouldn't be an option, first I would turn on all outside lights, call 911, the police here respond in under 5 minutes, then we would all go outside with said person, due to past experience, people who show up at your door in the middle of the night around here are usually addicts who have put themselves into whatever predicament they are in, never give a stranger a ride, they always say they need to go somewhere specific then redirect while in route, to a less desireable area, I speak from experience, and coming from a soft heart that has fallen for their load of crap more than once, it doesn't matter if they are male or female.

I would call the police but I would never let a stranger in my house. I would tell them I have a gun and Im calling the police and if they are really in trouble then I would tell them to stay where they are and I would put the light on them so the killer would be in the light also if he approached the said victim. I would let the killer know that I have taken a picture of him and I have a gun and I have called the police so he needs to get his butt out of there now. Its probably the land shark knocking on your door anyway. Just ignore him and he will go away.

I would let them in. Since it would be the middle of the night I would go to the door with a weapon (Bat, Gun, Knife, etc.) because this man or woman might be trying to get me to let them in to rob me even though it's unlikely someone would be yelling if they were trying to rob someone at night.
Regardless if they told me a maniac killer was after them I would call the police to deal with this person.

I'll look at the person from a window. If he/she is in danger and looks scared I'll let the person in. But of course if I didn't know that the person was being chased by a maniac killer, I wouldn't open the door, would you?!!

More than likely just waking up to screaming if it was in the middle of the night I probably already would have called the police department, and told whoever was screaming, that the police are on the way, just in case the person was there to possibly endanger me or my family, I know I could be a little safer knowing that they the police were already on the way. I, then would tell them to just wait on my porch.

With my Glock 26 leveled at them to see if they were telling the truth. I'd open the door and if they were telling the truth I would take out the maniac!

Because we live in this society with all of its evils, I would have to say no. I would qualify this by saying that I am a middle-aged woman who lives alone. If my circumstances were different, that would change my behavior. The most I could do is dial 911 to try and assist them, things being as they are.

If the person screaming for help looked like Jessica Alba, absolutely I'd let them in, but if they looked like Tex Cobb wearing a goalie mask, I'd probably not open the door.
The blogbaba is a sucker for damsels in distress, I guess it's the hero in me.

that's a tough question.
most probably i wouldn't let them in, although if i were in that position i would be totally freaked out too.
i guess it's the way society is shaped these days. you can't really trust anybody.
(on the other hand, though, if i knew this person well enough, i would most definetely let them in and lock all doors and windows)
most probably, though, i would call 911 and be ready for an attack.
