I guess because he just wanted to have some fun. Maybe he was aching to do something about Crow all along, and finally he made up the Westing Game to do that.

Oh My Gawd... I even have not considered the action picture yet I enjoyed The Westing sport. something via Ellen Raskin is stunning. yet... to respond to your question, he replaced into not killed, yet died of organic motives. Gotta check out her different books.
