Of course they did. They were backed 100% by everyone. People who didnt go to war then were looked down upon. It was a privliage to fight for your country. But society has changed and people dont think that way anymore.

If you weren't fighting back then, you better have a damn good reason for it. Everyone was needed. Back then, you get 12 weeks of training, a rifle and you're in. Today, it takes years of training to be a soldier. It's a different world in more than just patriotism. And lastly, The European theater had all the support in the world, despite the fact that the US were attacked at Pearl Harbor, most Americans didn't want to fight in the Pacific because the fighting was really much worse. Hence the Atomic Bomb.

If you liked the movie, read the book. I didn't enjoy the movie because it didn't do justice to the book.

Yes, definitely they did. Americans were more patriotic then. Also, they trusted and depended on their President to do the right thing whether they agreed with him or not. It can make all the difference in a country's success or failure. Our enemies love it when we run down our country. It just leaves the door wide open for more threats and terrorism.

So, to me, having a loved one in Iraq, it is most important that I back the troops. Since there is no mandatory enlistment, these young people are doing this on their own and not because they were drafted. Hooray for the troops. Let's just keep passing that forward. Thanks for the super question.

It seems we would have learned our lesson about that from Viet Nam.

There is no doubt that the nation is a lot more divided now than then and a lot of people need to give up their hatred for the President and put God and America first again the way it was meant to be. Patriotism is still in style as far as I'm concerned and the people that hate America and want to put us down should really be ashamed and get behind the troops. If not, they need to quit offending everyone else that does support them.
