I remember watching "Stand By me" a long time ago, and one of the boys said "Ok, Donalds a duck, Mickeys a mouse, Plutos a dog, What the hell is Goofy. At first I thought maybe he's a dog also , but then I looked at him and noticed he doesn't look much like one.

He is suposed to be a dog, but he kinda reminds me of a moose/cow/beaver type thing

Goofy’s a dog, all right; just like Pluto. Only, unlike Pluto, he doesn’t have Mickey and Minnie abusing him and making him walk around naked on a leash and eating dog food out of a dish on the floor, and making him sleep outside in a little shed in the garden at night. Poor Pluto. He has regressed back to the way his savage ancestors used to behave, under their sadistic torment.
Jason is right when he says that it represents Walt Disney's ideas about equality of the races. Notice that Goofy is dark and Pluto is a lot paler...!

Goofy is someone and Pluto is a puppy. quite of pants the duck has feathers so that you gained't see some thing (LOL). Mice do not have any masking so there ought to placed on pants! yet Goofy fairly is a paranormal and would communicate (disney must have concept troublesome)!

They refer to him as a dog in the cartoons. He's just a nother breed. Think about it, in goof troop, all the characters were types of dogs, but didnt look anything like pluto. I guess hes just representative of walt disneys subconscious ideas about diversity.

he's a dog - originally named Dippy Dawg!
The character whom we know today as Goofy first appeared six decades ago in Mickey's Revue (1932).
Then a bit player (as an obnoxious "laugher" in a barnyard audience), he sported whiskers and square spectacles and was called Dippy Dawg.

He was originally gonna be a dog, but I think they drew him wrong. On Wikipedia, It said that he is an "anthropomorphic dog" which means he's a dog with human characteristics, like walking upright (sorry get so nerdy on you.)
