A Information system is any technology that stores, processes or transmits information. Typical business info systems are inventory management systems, logistics systems, consumer data bases etc. These by not means have to be separate systems or programs. They can all be part of one system ie. a enterprise system.

They are the IT systems that collate and produce information about a company.

An example would be Management Information System

Sometimes it is use to mean all the IT systems.
