He said it moved around on the floor, without a track, and made a noise similiar to a siren. His mother said it may have been called the Green Mountain Express, but I can't find any info on it. ANY help is greatly appreciated!

It's probably similar to the one my brother had in the 1960's, it would back up and go in a different direction when it bumped into things, it was very loud! They were made by different manufacturers with various names for the train, They still made them when my son was little in the 1990's. They might still make them today. Have you checked ebay?

If you watch the movie "Arthur", I think Arthur gives one to his butler when the butler is sick in the hospital. Was it a wind up toy train?
