I am a programmer. I know BASIC, PASCAL, C, C++ and I'm learning Java.
I suggest if you love programming and you want to be a good programmer, learn Java. This is the best language because it is object oriented and you can make every type of program with it .
And Java has free development tools.
You can write C/C++ in Red hat Linux operating system which is free.
I used Microsoft QBASIC compiler for BASIC programming. If it is useful for you, send me an e-mail and I will send it to you .

Why do you *need* PureBasic??

As to the languages, well they are mostly Public
Domain. The variations on a theme mentioned,
along with their respective IDEs, are not.

Most of the current crop are *all* Object Orientated.
Even Perl ( as it has been for quite a while ).

As to the best choice of language, well, they all have
their good and bad points. You choose what you need, in order to do the job at hand.

But enough comment.

Link one, quite a nice BASIC + IDE

Link two, Wikipedia. Follow the link to the List of Programming Languages.

Microsoft has a FREE version of Visual Studio, which comes with C++ and VB. I downloaded it and use it all the time. It lacks the detailed help files and distribution files that the Pro version has, but heck... it's FREE!
