I don't think the actual 'hole' ever closes, but a thin layer of skin on the top and bottom side closes over to protect the hole when not in use. I just message my ear at the site, breaking the protected layer and then gently insert the stud or wire. Hope this helps. :)

yes but it takes it longer to close and it may not be completely closed. you should be able to poke an earring through the layer of skin. that's what i have to do when i don't put earrings in my top holes for a long time.

yes, it can close no matter how long the hole has been there for if you're talking about a small earring hole, not the huge circle ones where you can see through your ear...

yes but it takes a really long time to close. ive had my ears peirced since i was a baby and i havent worn earrings in a REALLY long time and they havent closed up.

ya that is if its infected it dose but some times it depends on how long the ear ring was in there

Yes, my mums did. It doesn't fully close though because my Aunt repierced it easily.

Yes it can,but if you don't wanna wear earring maybe but something sharp inside your whole so it won't clothes.
