Just like anything, we get out of life what we put into it. If you are someone who is satisfied with the "simple life," your life will be less complicated. However, if you want more out of life, you must put more into it (and put up with more problems).
I guess a simple answer to your question is....we make life more comlicated than we have to make it. However, making it complicated is not necessarily a bad thing.

Complications in life are just opportunities to find solutions. Life becomes complicated in itself when we give up and stop looking for ways around or through.

Life is complicated even when you try to live a simple life - Look at natural disaster, hurricanes, earthquakes etc... Look at natural illness - Colds, Flu all the way to the more serious. Look at things forced upon us, Death of a loved one, the loss of a job. Survival is the key to life. Just thinking about it is complicated.

Life is complicated by its own. If anything we don't want to make it complicated rather, we want to make life easier for us to tackle.
One Philosopher argued that anything we think which exists outside the boundaries of formal universals is evil. We think of the world, but we cannot know it, therefore the world is evil. We think of life outside the perimeter of that which is universal substance, therefore, life is evil.
The world is place for evil, trials and tribulations, sufferings, tests, difficulties so we try to escape it by doing something good, strengthening our faith in God, therefore leads us back to Him by being so.
Life is complicated-it is made that way for us- a test how far do we go to turn our back from these complications and do good deeds to head towards God?

Life is complicated because regardless of the influence of human beings, the world is an extremely complex thing. It has an infinite amount of systems and subsystems, all interacting. With endless variables in every occurrence, the world, and life, are infinitely complex and complicated.

Life can be complicated, and we can actually make it worse.
Life is a never-ending parade of choices to be made.
You can decide on which course to take or choose NOT to choose and take what happens. But, if you do that, I don't want to listen to your whining.
There are no guarantees to Life. You make your choices and put your money (or your heart) on the table.

Americans have been richly blessed,and they are quick to share their blessings.Whether the needs are here at home or far away,the response is the same:Americans care enough to lend a hand. Life was never compicated yet we were never responsible for making it complicated or difficult. It's all about fate and destiny and how do we react towards the sufferings of life !!

It's a bit of both. Other people make it complicated for everyone else because they are self-serving, and we make it complicated for ourselves by not shrugging stuff off.
